What is the Reinforcement of Rubber?

Filler,a powder material, is one of the main raw materials in the rubber industry . The amount of filler is quite large and almost equivalent to the amount of rubber itself. In the rubber processing, the filler is further divided into rubber-strengthening agent and stuffing bulking agent.

The reinforcement of rubber refers to the behavior of improving the wear resistance, tear strength, tensile strength, modulus, and swelling resistance of the vulcanized rubber after adding a substance to the rubber. Any substance that has this effect is called a reinforcing agent. Commonly used reinforcing agents: carbon black, white carbon black, short fibers, inorganic nano materials.

Carbon Black for Rubber

Carbon Black is the most important reinforcing filler in the rubber industry. It is no exaggeration to say that without the carbon black industry, there is no rubber industry that is booming. The carbon black is classified into hard carbon black and soft carbon black according to the action of carbon black in the rubber.

Hard carbon black: carbon black with a particle size below 40 mm and high reinforcing performance, such as super wear resistance, medium super wear resistance, high wear resistance carbon black, etc.

Soft carbon black: carbon black with a particle diameter above 40 mm or more and low reinforcing property, such as semi-reinforcing carbon black and thermal black.

Reinforced Rubber Performance of Carbon black

The purpose of reinforcing rubber is to improve the tensile properties, tear resistance, modulus and wear resistance of rubber, and make rubber products more elastic and durable. Carbon black mainly adjusts the effect of reinforcing rubber by the size, structure and amount of carbon black.

Tensile properties

The carbon black has small particle size, large surface activity, high structural degree and high tensile strength; as the amount of carbon black increases, the tensile strength increases first and then decreases.

Tear strength

The black particle size is small with high tear strength; when the particle size is the same, the tear strength is high for the crystalline rubber and the carbon black with low structure; for the non-crystalline rubber, the carbon black with high structure, the tear strength High,as the amount of carbon black increases, the tear strength increases first and then decreases.

Constant tensile stress and hardness

The carbon black has small particle size, high structural degree, large surface activity with large dosage, high modulus and hardness of the rubber compound, and the structural degree plays a decisive role. The effect of carbon black on the modulus and hardness of the rubber is much greater than that of the rubber and vulcanization systems.

Wear resistance

The carbon black has small particle size, large surface activity, good dispersion ability and good wear resistance of the rubber compound.

Elasticity

The particle size is small, the structure is high, the surface activity is large, the amount is large, and the elasticity of the rubber compound is poor. Among them, the amount of carbon black is the most affected.
